The Grand Ducal Administrative Building originally served to house the local authorities responsible for the administration of the ruler’s estates within the Schwerin crownlands, such as real estate and agricultural property. This long building in the late classicist style has an impressively articulated facade; it contained offices and service apartments and also stables. There were also gardens at the back.
The Administrative Building was commissioned by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich before his death in 1842. Over time various institutions moved into the complex of buildings; today it is the site of the Protestant Church social welfare organisation with the training college for the care of the elderly.
