The mansions on the Werderstrasse, designed in Neo-Renaissance style, were constructed by investors commissioned by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II, to provide the Castle with a worthy aesthetic setting and also to improve the connection between the Castle and the Stables. These houses were favoured by the nobility working at Court and the prosperous upper middle classes.
